3. Types of Eportfolio
The Three Main Types of Eportfolio
The most common framework distinguishes between eportfolio based on whether they are focussed on process,product or a combination of both.
1.The Process/Learning/Development Portfolio
This type is focussed on growth and learning overtime.Its a workspace rather than a showcase.
.Primary Purpose:
To document the entire learning journey,including drafts,struggles,feedback and reflection.The goal is to develop[ metacognition and track progress.
Key Characteristics
.Includes work in progress and drafts
.Features on going,regular reflection
.Shows evolution of skills and understanding
.Often includes feedback from instructors or peers
.May be messy and primarily private,used for personal development.
.Audience:Primarily the learner themselves,and sometimes their instructor or aedvisor
.Analogy:A fitness journal where you log daily workouts,diet,and how you felt.Its for tracking progress and understanding what works,not for impressing others
.Common Use:In educational settings to support a specific course or program of study.
2.The Showcase/Product/Professional Portfolio
This type is a curated collection of an individual best and most completed work
.Primary Purpose:To demonstrate competencies,skills,and achievements to an external audience for a specific goal,liike getting a job,admission to a program,or attracting clients.
Key Characteristics
.Highly selective and polished
.Only includes final,high quality products
.Reflections are concise and focussed on the value of work and the skills demonstrated
.Design and presentantation are professional and audience focussed
.Audience:External audiences like potential employers,clients,graduate school admission commitee,or accreditation boards
.Analogy:A model portfolio or a company annual report.Its curated,professional presentation of the best work to a chieve a specific outcome
.Common use:Job seekers,artists,designers,writers,consultants,and professional building their personal brand.
The Assessement Portfolio
This type is created to measure and evaluate learning against specific standards,criteria,or learning outcomes
.Primary Purpose:To provide evidence that the learner has met required competencies or standards set by an institution or certifying body.
Key Characteristics
.Directly tied to specific learning outcomes or rubrics
.Artifacts are carefully chosen to provide proof of meeting each standard
.Reflections are often structured around explaining how the arifact provides evidence for a specific criterion
.Its more formal and structured than a learning portfolio but may not as be as polished as a professional showcase portfolio
.Audience:Assessors,instructors or accreditation committees
.Analogy:A final exam but instead one tests its a collection of work from a cross a course or program that proved you have learned the material
